Half the Sky Foundation
Half the Sky Foundation was established sixteen years ago to enrich the lives of orphaned and marginalised children in China. At the time China’s state run welfare institutions were overwhelmed with abandoned children and desperately understaffed. Caretakers were assigned roles without any relevant training and lacked interest. Virtually all institutionalised children suffered the ill effects of pervasive neglect.
Half the Sky provides model programmes and caregiver training to give family-like care to children of all ages and abilities. They operate programs in 53 orphanages in China.
Our $105,000 funding will support Half the Sky Foundation by: Sponsoring the Tanjin and the Shenyang Family Village Programmes, which provide training, support and mentorship to foster parents of over 22 children from each village.
Actis colleagues in Beijing have also: Committed their time to visit the Tianjin Family Village programme to help the children and foster families.« Back to all case studies
