Salaam Baalak Trust

Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT) was established in 1988 on the premise that street children should be given access to a home, a community, an education and a future. It provides support for street and working children in the inner cities of New Delhi and Mumbai. They run 5 shelter homes and 13 contact points.

SBT manages the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Children’s Home (DMRC) and has been sheltering boys there since 2010. More than 60,000 children have benefited from the help of SBT and there are over 51,000 children living on the streets of New Delhi alone.

Our funding is helping Salaam Baalak Trust to: Run the education programmes at DMRC. We have supported this home and previously supported the SBT, Rose Shelter Home for girls. Our commitment of $150,000 will support the running of DMRC for a further two years.

Actis colleagues in Delhi also: Volunteer their time to participate in activities with the children such as cricket matches, attend city tours run by the children and collect and distribute goods to the shelter home.
